What to Wear for Spring Family Photos

filed in

One of the most common questions I receive from my family photo clients is “what should I wear?!”. I know for me, this can also be an overwhelming puzzle to figure out for my own family photos! There are a few things to consider, and these choices DO matter when it comes to how your final images turn out. Keep reading for some quick & easy tips!

  • For spring family photos, we’ll primarily be surrounded by rich greens and possibly some floral color. You want the outfit color palette you choose to complement this, not compete with it. This mama’s gorgeous blue, floral dress is timeless and soooo feminine. It really adds to the scene.

  • Neutrals are ALWAYS a great idea! They keep the focus on the beautiful connection being shared between you & your family, they create the most flattering skin tones (you’re not worried about red reflecting up on your chin, for example) and they are timeless. You can print and hang these photos in any home, without clashing with existing color palettes.

3. Softer pastels and earth tones also photograph beautifully & aren’t distracting or overpowering. For kiddos especially, I recommend softer colors in comfortable fabrics such as linen or cotton.

Shop the look: Mom’s dress; little girl dress; baby leggings; baby sweater; dad shirt

Pro tip: if you’re worried about littles spitting up or spilling on themselves on the way to your session, wait to change them into their outfit until you arrive at your location! Plan to arrive a few minutes early to change them, and then we’ll begin your session fresh and ready to go!
