I was especially excited to meet baby Nora for this Bloomington newborn photography session! I got to capture her parents’ wedding back in 2018, just a few weeks before my own wedding! Haley and I became good friends after photographing her wedding, and she has even come along as my second shooter for several weddings since! It’s always my goal to build genuine relationships with my wedding couples. It’s such a special full circle moment when I’m able to continue documenting more milestones like growing their family!
When I arrived for Nora’s Bloomington newborn photography session, she was very sleepy after nursing, so it was the perfect time to start with some solo shots of just her! I always bring along my Boppy newborn lounger, which is perfect for propping baby up a little bit for individual photos. Haley had a special blanket that she wanted to incorporate, so we swaddled Nora in that first! I took a lot of photos of Nora swaddled up on the lounger, got plenty of her precious little face, as well as some close ups of her details, because – let’s be honest – they grow and change way too fast!
We took some photos of the whole family in her adorable nursery (I love the way Haley styled it!) and then spent the rest of our time in their living room. Their emerald green couch made for a beautiful and unique backdrop. We got a few photos of Nora smiling in her sleep when Haley was holding her, and I have to say, the photos of Tom holding her are some of my favorites from the session. There’s just something about a dad holding his newborn baby girl!
One of my favorite parts of newborn sessions is how peaceful and slow they are. Unlike wedding days, we keep things simple, we move slow, and I’m mostly just capturing new parents love on their baby. It’s such an honor every time to be invited into homes and to be part of the process!
